She didn't, didn't, didn't want me / Until I had the money

Twelve more days until Eurovision week, the best three nights of television of the year. It's a goddamn retro circuit party.

I'm liking Germany's entry (and Dita von Teese will be dancing on stage, brraow) and Iceland's, and a little disappointed with Sweden's (she's a fucking opera singer, who decided she should do shitty pop? Leave that to the professionals). Israel's sucks, but that's not a surprise, they haven't had a decent entry since Dana International in 1998, and before that not since Ofra Haza in 1983. This kid from Norway is cute and has a very strong voice (also, violin!) but he has no stage presence. I just don't understand Belgium's or Bulgaria's, so to be safe maybe they should be booted from the EU. And look, James McAvoy is apparently Bosnian (and not a good singer, either).

Ultimately, though, Serbia should win (omg this guy is awesome):

I've felt that way about Belgium and Bulgaria for years.

We need to get our ideas out there. We'll revolutionize European efficiency.

...Wow. The phrase "revolutionize European efficiency" literally makes me break out in hives.

Power to the people! Up with the Proletariat!

Up with the whatsit? Mark, have you been sampling your latest batch of brownies?

Did you sleep through all of World History? Proletariat. The working class. The common man. This is not a difficult term or an unusual term. Purchase a dictionary.

I have a dictionary. It's on my phone and stops me from misspelling things. Why not just say working class then?

Sigh. Back to Iron Curtain politics again, are we? Look, the cubicle farm is drab enough without going for that blocky concrete decorating scheme that was all the rage back in the day.

Being a product of that European efficiency with its "blocky concrete decorating scheme", I can say that it did wonders for motivating field agents to process paperwork with expediency. Mostly in order to spend as little time as possible in the office.

As for Eurovision contests, nothing will top the 1988 contest in Dublin. I do not know what was more difficult, carrying off a covert defection to the west in the midst of the contest, or putting up with Céline Dion chirping that horrid pop trash and actually winning.

But it's so...ugh. Wanting to carve my brainstem out with paperclips doesn't really do much for my motivation, personally.

We at least had the excuse of being the secret police, we had an image to maintain, you see.

At least in my current cubicle, I have a window. Eleven years at Initech, and I think only by the grace of some serious post-hypnotic conditioning did I not start executing co-workers in search of a more fitting work environment.

Yet another benefit of this job over my previous one. Plus, ergonomic chairs.
